Snowflake

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A snowflake is either a single ice crystal or an aggregation of ice crystals which falls through the Earth's atmosphere. They begin as snow crystals which develop when microscopic supercooled cloud droplets freeze. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Complex shapes emerge as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity regimes, such that individual snowflakes are nearly unique in structure. Snowflakes encapsulated in rime form balls known as graupel. Snowflakes appear white in color despite being made of clear ice. This is due to diffuse reflection of the whole spectrum of light by the small crystal facets.
Your challenge is to design and model a snowflake or snowflakes and then display them in a way that showcases them. An additional requirement is that the featured snowflakes must be three-dimensional and not simple 2D faces. Enjoy the challenge and Happy Holidays!

SketchUp 3D Challenge #196 - Chariots

Thursday, 12 December 2013 - Monday, 23 December 2013

Chariot

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The chariot is a type of carriage using animals (almost always horses)[1] to provide rapid motive power. Chariots were used for war as "battle taxis" and mobile archery platforms, as well as more peaceable pursuits such as hunting or racing for sport, and as a chief vehicle of many ancient peoples, when speed of travel was desired rather than how much weight could be carried. The original chariot was a fast, light, open, two-wheeled conveyance drawn by two or more horses that were hitched side by side. The car was little more than a floor with a waist-high semicircular guard in front. The chariot, driven by a charioteer, was used for ancient warfare during the bronze and the iron ages. Armor was limited to a shield. The vehicle was used for travel, in processions, games, and races after it had been superseded by other vehicles for military purposes.
For the purposes of this challenge, your chariot can be from any era or culture as long as it is powered by harness animals. It is not necessary to model the animal but you are welcome to if you find the time.

Aircraft cabin (interior)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An aircraft cabin is the section of an aircraft in which passengers travel. At cruising altitudes of modern commercial aircraft the surrounding atmosphere is too thin for passengers and crew to breathe without an oxygen mask, so cabins are pressurized at a higher pressure than ambient pressure at altitude.
For this challenge you are to model an aircraft interior of your own design as long as it is meant for passengers. You don't need to be concerned with the cockpit or any other part of the aircraft, just the interior where passengers ride is part of the challenge. You can choose to model any type of interior from commercial passenger jets to private jet or even a helicopter passenger compartment.

Standard Participation Rules apply. Thanks to Peter Bloot for the challenge suggestion.
